Episode 16: What if Audition Season is a Sh*tty Infinity Scarf?

Elise and Marcelle are back on their own this week, and the TEA IS HOT.  ☕️

As an industry, we’re facing a delayed audition season, and one that looks like it may be mostly virtual as per the Houston Grand Opera audition announcement (NOTE: in the episode, we incorrectly refer to this as a post on YAP Tracker. YAP Tracker only shared the press release from HGO).

However, the real question for us is: will it be worth it? Oh, and what if we have all been hiding behind the audition season this whole time instead of pursuing the career we actually want?

This is a deep dive into our personal co-dependencies with the infinite loop also known as “Audition Season,” how we’ve held ourselves back because of it, and how we want to change the questions we’re asking about sustainability, equity, and dignity in our industry.

We also spend some time shouting out the projects we’ve encountered in the past weeks that are bringing us a sense of hope and excitement about the changes happening as opera goes digital.
